FaultLab Workshop

Antalya, Turkey

June 14-16, 2016

2nd Circular

The FaultLab project is a multi-disciplinary investigation of the North Anatolian Fault System in western Turkey.  Central to the project was a dense broadband seismic network (DANA: Dense array for North Anatolia) deployed across the fault system in the region around Lake Sapanca during the period 2012-2013.  Data from this array have been analysed to give new images of the crust and how it is cut by the fault strands that are active on this major strike-slip fault zone.  The array also enabled a high-resolution look at the natural active seismicity in the region.  The FaultLab project also involves geodetic analysis of ground displacements, modelling of the fault cycle with the object of detecting and interpreting viscous creep in the crust beneath the region, and surface mapping of structures previously developed at mid-crustal levels and now exhumed in the Uludag Massif.

Mountain range and building

With the current project funding drawing to a close we plan a workshop to discuss results that bear on any and all aspects of the North Anatolian Fault system, including but not limited to: crustal structure of the region, natural seismicity, earthquake dynamics, geodetic measurements, geological synthesis, geodynamical modelling.  A key aim of the workshop is to discuss future possible projects in any of these areas.

In addition to participants who are already involved in the FaultLab project we invite participation from other scientists working in the areas listed above.  A limited amount of funding is available to support participants who can contribute talks or posters.  To register interest in this workshop, please complete the form at https://leeds.onlinesurveys.ac.uk/faultlab-workshop

The workshop will be held at the Rixos Downtown Hotel in Antalya on the south coast of Turkey: http://downtownantalya.rixos.com/overview/detail/OVERVIEW/90/112/0

Limited financial support is available and will be used to enable participation of researchers whose work is particularly relevant to the FaultLab project.  In allocating these limited funds, preference may be given to younger researchers, and support may be partial in some cases.  Please register before May 1 if you wish to be considered for financial support in the form of reimbursement of accommodation and/or travel costs.

Participants should book their own travel and book their own room at Rixos Downtown, quoting “FaultLab Workshop” on the hotel reservation in order to obtain the rate of 100 euro (single room) or 135 euro (shared room), including 3 meals daily.   Please note that participants are responsible for their own travel and accommodation costs unless specifically advised by the organising committee that a reimbursement (full or partial) will be made from project funds.

Confirmation of conference registration, and allocation of project funds will be notified by May 10.
