Project outline

Improvements in the provision of clean water supply are fundamental to meeting the Millennium Development Goals and such improvements may also generate a wide range of socio- economic benefits in different levels. It is important to identify and estimate the social benefits of water sector improvement in order to take correct policy decisions on water allocation and on investments on water sector improvements. From an economic point of view, the benefits of clean water provision can be measured through examining the changes in human welfare related to water improvements. The overall aim of this study is to develop empirical models to estimate the economic benefits of water provision and quality improvement in both water supply policy options aspect applying Choice Experiment Method and human health aspect applying Health Production Approach. Further, this study also examines the effectiveness of the existing water management policies in a developing country context.
