- the development of fluvial and lacustrine systems and their resultant deposits in continental rift settings

- the relative influence of tectonic and eustatic controls on fluvial and lacustrine system development

- the use of petroleum systems analysis in determining petroleum element qualities in fluvial and lacustrine successions
