Biography

In 2017 I graduated from the University of East Anglia with a BSc in Environmental Sciences. During my degree, I studied abroad for a year at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. During this exchange, I developed an interest in air quality meteorology and health. For my dissertation project, I used air quality and meteorological data from Hong Kong, along with modelled back trajectories to analyse the long-range transport of pollutants during the winter monsoon in China.

Research Interests

  • Air quality modelling (using WRF/Chem)
  • Air quality health impacts
  • Quantifying air quality co-benefits of climate change mitigation strategies in cities

Project details

Project title

The co-benefits of low carbon cities to Asian air quality

Supervisors

Professor Dominick Spracklen, Dr Steve Arnold, and Professor Andy Gouldson

AIA Life Insurance

Start date

1 October 2017

Project outline

The aim of my project is to quantify the air quality co-benefits of low emissions development strategies in cities. I hope to identify realistic and effective measures to rapidly improve air quality while reducing carbon emissions. I will use in-situ and remote sensed measurements alongside regional air quality modelling to better understand the emissions and processes that affect air quality in the Pearl River Delta region of South China. This knowledge will then be comminicated to policy makers, NGOs and the business sector.
