Cross-sections hint at the complexity of structural relationships found in the internal parts of the Alps. The Austroalpine units (represented by the Dent Blanche nappe) keep a lid on things but below there are complex interleavings of rocks originally derived from the European continental margin together with the floor of the once-neighbouring Tethyan ocean.
