Much has been written about House and it's roots (One of which I nicked a piccy from, and at least one other from which I did not), but all too often the view that house is first and foremost a direct descendant of disco seems to take precedence. Well, yes, disco was hugely influential. It seems to me, though, that without Kraftwerk and Gary Numan, and the early Detroit Techno scene, and many other things, House could never have happened. Why is House still going after all these years? Because of its diversity, flexibility, unity, and its ability to move both body and spirit. This makes it first and foremost absolutely unique. Rant over.
