Boudinaged dyke. The black blobs running vertically up and down the centre of the picture once formed a continuous dyke of material more competent than the surroundings. During stretching in the vertical direction the dyke was broken into the pieces seen. The length on the deformed state can be maeasured directly, the length in the original state can be found by summing the lengths of the individual pieces. (photo: Rob Butler)
