Seen here in Carboniferous limestones from south Wales, this is a classic example of a stilolite. These features can be mistaken for folds, with in this case the direction of maximum compression aligned horizontally. This is wrong because the stilolite forms by solution - with, in this case, the direction of maximum compression aligned vertically. Notice the veins too.
