Detail of an aplite margin

ver3.jpg (34904 bytes) What is the angle between the shape fabric (visible as aligned edges to elongate feldspar grains) and the location fabric in this view?

What do these values imply about the amount of distortional strain experienced by these rocks?

Detail of the edge of a main aplite unit with small branches intruded into the host granite gneiss. These branching arms are believed to have originally been intruded at a high angle to the edge of the main aplite. Use this relationship to deduce the amount of shear strain experienced by these rocks. You can also see the angular relationship between the aplite-gneiss contact (location fabric) and the grain shape fabric. Back to Verres outcrop
