The edge of the Himalayan mountain range in Pakistan. Here a thrust at the bottom of the scarp caried up sediments (as old as Cambrian in age) onto detritus deposited by rivers. The thrust emerges directly to the earth's surface. Consequently it is possible to use stratigraphic data from the sediments that are involved in the deformation to directly date the thrusting.
