Increasing energy yield from the integration of anaerobic digestion and pyrolysis

This project aims to develop a synergy between biological (anaerobic digestion (AD)) and thermal (intermediate pyrolysis) conversion processes in which the overall net energy yield from waste biomass is improved, producing energy carriers that are both storable and transportable. The social science component will use a cognitive mapping technique to investigate the social, market and regulatory aspects of the technological options, identifying the institutional drivers and barriers, including stakeholder, market and civil society expectations.
