Summary

The Trading Up project examined interactions between the European Union and the United States and the setting of regulatory standards for genetically modified crops and foods. The research involved interviews with over 50 policy actors, many of whom were involved in the formal dispute at the World Trade Organisation. The project was based at The Open University and the Principal Investigator was Prof David Wield. Other members of the project team were Joseph Murphy, Les Levidow, Susan Carr and Simon Bromley. The main output from the project was Governing the Transatlantic Conflict over Agricultural Biotechnology: Contending Coalitions, Trade Liberalisation and Standard Setting, written by Joseph Murphy and Les Levidow and published by Routledge in 2006.
