Capacity building in climate change and rural livelihoods in Malawi and Botswana

Transect walk, Mogubane

This project is a collaboration for capacity-building between the Sustainability Research Institute, Bunda College in Malawi and University of Botswana, funded by Development Partnerships in Higher Education (DelPHE, DFID funded).  As part of this project Dr Claire Quinn, Dr Elisabeth Simelton and Prof Andy Dougill facilitated a training course for university staff, practitioners and local policymakers on mixing qualitative and quantitative methods for analysing vulnerability of livelihoods to climate change in Gaborone, Botswana 2010. The training course included a fieldtrip where participants visited farmers and discussed critical issues relating to their capacity to adapt. This project has also enabled a new research collaboration on the role of indigenous knowledge for adaptation.
