Business for landscapes - New Massive Open Online Course (MOOC)

25.04.2017 - 16:59

The European Network for the Advancement of Business and Landscape Education (ENABLE) develops much-needed education on integrated landscape management based on sustainable business models. ENABLE is a Strategic Partnership - including academic partners, private businesses, the public sector, United Nations agencies and NGOs - co-funded by the Erasmus+ programme of the European Union.

The University of Leeds is an Advisory Board Member of ENABLE (staff involved at SRI: Prof Lindsay Stringer and Dr Nicola Favretto). It provides scientific expertise and guidance on economically viable sustainable land management approaches and policies, grounded on its multi-year involvement with the Economics of Land Degradation (ELD) Initiative.

We are pleased to announce that the first Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) of the Consortium, titled “Landscape Restoration for Sustainable Development: a Business Approach”, will be launched on 1 May 2017 on the Coursera platform. The MOOC targets business students and professionals, as well as anyone with an interest in business driven landscape restoration.

For more details, please see the MOOC FLYER and BROCHURE, as well as the TEASER VIDEO.

The course offers learners comprehensive knowledge of landscape degradation and landscape restoration from the perspectives of natural science and economics and business administration. The learners are introduced to tools that they can use in their professional lives when working in landscape restoration and land management. The MOOC concludes with a real-life business case about a current project of the Commonland foundation, developed by Rotterdam School of Management‘s Case Development Centre. The case enables the learners to deepen their understanding of the theories and frameworks taught during the course, as well as to apply the tools and methods they learnt about, to ultimately develop an applicable and creative business solution to a specific landscape restoration project.
