Sustainability Research Institute

Welcome
The Sustainability Research Institute is a dedicated team of around 30 inter-disciplinary
researchers working on the different dimensions of sustainability. Research within
the SRI is based largely on the environmental social sciences and draws upon aspects
of geography, sociology, politics, planning, economics, management, development
studies and science and technology studies. Our broader activities combine social
and natural sciences in leading-edge, interdisciplinary research. As well as being
a centre of excellence for inter-disciplinary research, the SRI is home to around
25 research students, and it teaches
a range of postgraduate and undergraduate programmes
on sustainability.
Our specialist areas are:
- Sustainable development and environmental change
- Environmental policy, planning and governance
- Ecological and environmental economics
- Business, environment and corporate responsibility
- Sustainable production and consumption
Through these areas of interest we explore a wide range of issues including climate
change, energy, transport, water, resource use, land use, conservation, cities and
communities, business and lifestyles.
In all of these areas, we specialise in participatory, action-oriented research
that brings together government, business, NGOs and local communities to enhance
the relevance, quality and practical influence of our research.
