Sustainable production and consumption

Our work on production and consumption focuses on the efforts of businesses, organisations, consumers, households and communities in creating a sustainable society. At the consumption end, we want to understand why and how consumers and communities are willing to take on more sustainable behaviours, as well as how current social structures lead people to live unsustainable lives. At the production end, we are concerned with the ways in which businesses can engage with the challenges of sustainable production. Here we focus on corporate social responsibility, entrepreneurship, and the production of sustainable products and services, as well as worker rights and global value chains. We have a particular specialism in public institutions, such as the NHS and Universities, as we see these large consumers of products and services as key agents of change.
