Climate change and low carbon economy and society
SRI researchers are attempting to address two key challenges in this area: that of climate change mitigation, in particular moving to a sustainable low carbon world, and that of adapting to climate change at global, national and local scales. Our research investigates the changes needed to current systems of production and consumption, and the actors, networks and institutions involved in the governance of these changes. Particular topics of research interest include low carbon innovation by households, communities and businesses, transition pathways to low carbon energy systems, low carbon development pathways for developing countries, and analysing carbon emissions reductions at a global level. SRI researchers play a central part in the ESRC Centre for Climate Change Economics and Policy (CCCEP), the Centre for Low Carbon Futures, and the Earth, Energy and Environment (EEE) University Interdisciplinary Institute.
