Biodiversity conservation
Human population change, climate change, land use change, and global politics and markets have put unprecedented pressure on our natural environments, resulting in more and more species being lost. We need healthy, functioning and diverse natural environments to provide us with many of the things we need to survive, such as pollination of our crops. Conserving biodiversity is one of the major challenges facing humanity, and our research at SRI is attempting to address this. We have two specific strengths in biodiversity conservation research: first, our research lies at the interface between the natural and social sciences drawing on expertise from diverse disciplines, second we specialise in integrating the knowledge of stakeholders at all levels, from the communities dependent on biodiversity, to international policy-makers.
