SEG Grants Leeds' Geophysics Students The First SEG Student Section In The UK

On June 6, 2007, the newly formed Geophysics student chapter was granted official "student section" status by the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG), the leading professional body for industrial geophysics. Being the first student society in the United Kingdom to receive SEG status is exciting, and it acknowledges the University of Leeds' position as the leading university in the UK for provision of taught-course and research postgraduate training in exploration geophysics.

The Geophysical Society was created with the intention of facilitating communication between geophysics students of all levels; providing a forum to hear about current research; and giving companies a point of contact for industry liaisons. Our recent affiliation with the SEG will help with these goals by allowing us to take advantage of an existing network of student links via the SEG.

While we are still in the process of building the society, you may contact any of our executive committee for more information.
