CRONUS-EU

Cosmic Ray Produced Nuclide Systematics on Earth – The European Contribution

Funded by: The European Commission

Duration: 2004-2007

This Marie Curie Research Training Network aims to advance Terrestrial cosmogenic nuclide (TCN) techniques in Europe to develop an absolute chronometer for surface exposure dating in the range 50 yr to 10 Myr for use in the Earth and Environmental Sciences. TCNs are continuously produced in the uppermost layer (less than 3 m) of the Earth’s surface by interactions with cosmic rays. CRONUS-EU will collaborate closely with CRONUS-Earth in the USA which is funded by NSF. The Network involves research teams from the Vrije University, Amsterdam, SUERC University of Glasgow, the Department of Nuclear Physics, Bratislava, GFZ Potsdam, CEREGE France, ETH Zurich, University of Hannover and CRPG Nancy.

Marjorie Wilson is chair of the international Monitoring Group of CRONUS-EU.
