Institute of Geophysics and Tectonics (IGT)

About IGT

Our research is dedicated to understanding the structure and evolution of the Earth from the core to the surface. We assess earthquake and volcanic hazard, study deformation and lithospheric processes in both the continents and oceans, with a strong focus on rheology and rates of processes and study the generation of the Earth’s magnetic field within the Earth’s core, together with the influence of the core on mantle processes.

Our research is multi-disciplinary and we maintain a dense network of collaborations within the School, the University and at national and international level. IGT members are very active leading international research collaborations, organizing and contributing to international workshops, convening thematic sessions at international conferences, and participating in panels and committees responsible for research strategy and policy.
