Atmospheric Chemistry Group

 

The Atmospheric chemistry Group incorporates the research groups of Prof. Martyn Chipperfield and Dr Steve Arnold. We develop and run models of atmospheric chemistry which extend from the surface to the mesosphere. We use these models, together with extensive observations, to understand stratospheric ozone depletion, tropospheric air quality and how changes in atmospheric chemistry affect climate, and vice versa.

Within our group we develop and maintain the TOMCAT/SLIMCAT Chemical Transport Model for the UK community. A lot of our research is based on this model. We also use a range of trajectory models, land surface process models and global chemistry-climate models.

We are funded by NERC, the National Centre for Earth Observation, the National Centre for Atmospheric Science, ESA, and the EU.
