Our work for NCAS-Weather concerns the following:

  • Convective (cumulus) clouds, their dynamics and microphysics;
  • Influence of convection on larger-scale dynamics, and interaction with the land surface;
  • Physics and modelling of stratocumulus cloud decks;
  • New-generation high-resolution modelling techniques.

More details of specific projects and results can be found on our individual research pages, and the pages associated with some of our projects:

African Monsoon Multidisciplinary Analysis (AMMA)

Convective Storm Initiation Project (CSIP)

Cascade: Cloud-resolving simulations of the tropical atmosphere

Convective and Orographically-induced Precipitation Study (COPS)

DIAMET: DIAbatic influence on Mesoscale structures in ExTratropical storms

VAMOS Ocean-Cloud-Atmosphere-Land Study (VOCALS)

We have also contributed to the national, NCAS efforts to further understand and predict the fate of emissions from the Eyjafjallajokull volcano in Iceland.
