Next Generation Weather and Climate Programme: Gungho
ICAS is involved in an exciting joint Met Office project on developing the "Next Generation Weather and Climate Programme", Gungho for short. The aim is to develop a new weather forecasting model dynamical framework that will operate for the next 20 years. Sarah-Jane Lock is developing new algorithms and code as part of this and Alan Gadian and Prof. Stephen Mobbs are supervising the Leeds contribution. Beth Good, a new PhD student is also involved and developing the new "cut-cell" formulation for the vertical co-ordinate. This part is being supervised by Alan Gadian, Andy Ross and Sarah-Jane Lock. There are extensive collaborations with German, US and Japanese scientists.
