The Sedimentology Research Group carries out a broad range of work into modern and ancient surface processes using field-based, experimental and theoretical approaches.

We host the new Sorby Environmental Fluid Dynamics Laboratory, a NERC-recognised facility, with facilities now unparalleled anywhere else in the UK. We have strong collaborative links with the hydrocarbon industry and are the base for the industry-funded Turbidite Research Group. The research we do can be applied to both today's environmental problems and help us plan for the those of the future.

Our research includes work on flow within submarine channels, the dynamics of large open-channel river junctions and dunes and studies on turbidity systems.
