Earth Surface Science Institute (ESSI)

ESSI is a tightly focused institute comprising of full time staff members, externally funded research fellows, and associated research and technical staff in two research groups: Palaeo@Leeds and the Cohen Geochemistry Group. Our primary mission is to advance understanding of earth surface process, both in modern and past environments. Our research strengths lie in palaeoclimate modelling, understanding mass extinctions, palaeo and chemical oceanography, isotope geochemistry, water and land quality, molecular environmental science and geomicrobiology, and organic geochemistry.
