Research Interests

I am studying tectonic deformation from the perspectives of geodesy and earthquake physics. I am particularly interested in the following types of scientic questions:

  • What is the temporal and spatial distribution of afterslip, and what are the friction properties of faults?

  • How much strain is released by postseismic processes of the faults that ruptured coseismically?

  • What is the dominant mechanism of postseismic relaxation, and what information can we obtain about the viscosity structure of the earth?

  • What is the potential seismic and it's associated tsunami hazard?

To study these questions, I have developed inversion codes for kinematic coseismic slip and transient deformation, worked with rate and state dynamic models, and modeled viscoelastic relaxation processes and tsunamis triggered by earthquakes. My goal is to work towards a better understanding of tectonic processes by combining all available geodetic data sets, including GPS, InSAR, coral, tsunami DART, and tide gauge data.
