Biography

From 2010 to 2014, I worked as a Research Assistant at the Centre for Climate Change Economics and Policy and the Centre for Low Carbon Futures. I have an MSc in Energy and Environment from the University of Leeds and a BSc in Ocean Science/Technology from Heriot-Watt University.

My research from 2011 to 2014 involved analysis of the least cost pathways to carbon emission abatement for city regions, intially focusing on Leeds City Region. Working with the Committee on Climate Change and Stockholm Environment Institute to develop regional marginal abatement cost analysis for a variety of economic sectors, as well as also looking at the potential economic benefits of abatement for different regions. I was involved with the creation of Economics of Low Carbon Cities reports for Sheffield and the Humber City Regions and for the city of Birmingham.

The Economics of Low Carbon Cities work moved on to look at the city of Kolkata, India. Using a similar methodology to that developed for cities in the UK but creating the marginal abatement cost models from first principles. The research in Kolkata attempted to develop an alternative low carbon pathway for a city experiencing rapid growth in population and energy use.

Other research that I was involved with at this time included analysis of a large scale energy efficiency scheme in the local authority of Kirklees. Kirklees Warm Zone was one of the largest insulation schemes to take place in the UK, and our analysis attempted to quantify the energy, carbon and cost implications of such a scheme on the ground.

In 2010 I worked on the creation and application of a survey and choice experiment, designed to assess the current and the potential future efforts of businesses in the areas of carbon mitigation and energy efficiency. The survey results have contributed to Government policy via the Department for Energy and Climate Change's 'Green Growth Strategy' which was released in May 2011.
