Research Interests

Boundary layer dynamics and mesoscale processes, particularly relating to land-atmosphere interactions, using a combination of observations (remote-sensing, ground and airborne), as well as the UK Met Office Large Eddy Model (LEM) and Unified Model (UM).

I am currently working on the Saharan boundary layer, in particular its vertical structure and diurnal evolution, using both models and airborne observations from the FENNEC campaign. I am also interested in the impact of mesoscale features, such as the presence of albedo variations, on the boundary layer structure and dynamics.

My PhD work focused on the impact of vegetation heterogeneity on boundary layer dynamics and convection. Airborne observations from the AMMA campaign were used to demonstrate the presence of breezes forced by the presence of cropland areas within forests. The Met Office LEM was also used to look in detail at the impact of these vegetation-induced breezes on convection and rainfall.
