Aims of the project

 

  • To increase public awareness of the science underpinning the regional tourist attractions, with a focus on environment and energy,
  • To help provide a rapid knowledge transfer of new science and information on key science issues (climate change, the environment as well as energy use and sustainability) at key tourist sites in the Yorkshire region,
  • Provide links and information in relation to those involved in the associated science at the University of Leeds ,
  • To help the effective communication of science via the use of site information signs, leaflets, science walks, weekends, etc.

The project is funded under the Higher Education Innovation Fund (HEIF) award to the University of Leeds. The project was initiated by Professor Rob Knipe and Dr Andrea Jackson of the School of Earth and Environment. The project has been developed by Dr Jacqui Houghton of the School of Earth and Environment and Bobbie Millar the Faculty of Environment Inter-faculty Initiative with staff and students from a number of departments and external partners.
