School of Earth and Environment

In collaboration with colleagues across the Faculty of Environment, the School of Earth & Environment has been managing a postgraduate student-led research project to understand more about the 'carbon footprint' of University departments.  Funded by the Faculty and the University Environmental Management Team, the project has 2 main aims:

1) To establish a 'carbon unit' for key activities related to University departments (including room usage, field trip travel, ISS equipment usage)

2) Use these 'carbon units' to estimate the 'carbon footprint' of 3rd year BA and BSc Geography Programmes as an example of its application.

The project has been designed to inform the University Carbon Management Plan, to inform the Faculty of Environment of its key carbon producing activities, and to be of relevance to teaching programmes.  As the project comes to an end this autumn, more information on the findings will be posted on this site
