Recycling in SEE

For an A - Z of what can be recycled around campus check out the university's comprehensive ABC recycling guide.

Batteries: these can be recycled in the box in the post room. Batteries are collected by estates and sent to a UK based re-processer where the lead is re-used in the manufacture of new batteries.

Cans and metal: bins are located throughout the School alongside the other recycling bins.

Food and compostable waste: waste collection points for these can be found in the kitchen, in the student support office and near to recycling bins around the School.

Glass: a glass recycling bin is located in the kitchen on level 8.

Paper and Card:

Waste paper - in the paper and card recycling bins around the School or located near to the photocopiers.

Single sided paper - this can be recycled in the boxes next to the photocopiers. This will be reused inside or outside of the department so make sure it is NON CONFIDENTIAL.

Card - if the card can be folded it can be placed in the paper recycling bins, other cardboard can be placed in the large bins in the parking area underneath the senior common room (go out of the doors on level 7).

Pens: pens that are either broken or no longer working can be recycled in the post room. All writing instruments can be collected (except wooden pencils and crayons). They are sent to Terra Cycle where they are recycled into durable consumer goods and raw materials.

Stamps: there is a stamp collection point in the post room. Used stamps are sent to The Multiple Sclerosis Society Charitable foundation.

Toners/cartridges: Waste toner cartridges can be placed in the box in the postroom - however, it is usually IT support that replace the cartridges. These are recycled through Cartridge Express.

Polystyrene (not large items from packaging) and cartons: Can be placed in the plastic recycling bins
