Finance in the Mining Industry – Private Equity Investment in Developing Markets

Wednesday 7 December 2016, 17:30 – 20:00

This presentation, followed by networking will focus on Private Equity mining investment with examples of successful investment undertaken by Tembo Capital Management, in particular from the South African Platinum Group Metals.

Developing Markets are rapidly emerging as the “place to be” for mining. Certainly, over the last three decades the flow of higher risk exploration capital into these regions confirms this. Most of the future metal resources lie in Developing Markets, where deposits can still be found relatively near surface, allowing low cost open pit mining techniques to be used.

Private Equity returns are achievable in the mining industry. Above average returns are realised by de-risking quality projects and their subsequent sale to a Major or Mid-Tier producer. Such quality assets become the bedrock of future supply.

Humankind’s appetite for metals has grown voraciously over the past seven decades. Our modern life is intimately dependent on the continued and expanded supply of metals.
