Kennedy Library - Early geological maps

One of the earliest Geological Survey of Ireland 1" maps, published in 1856. Note the lack of any height data apart from spot heights. Drift deposits (mainly limestone grit) are indicated by stippling in these early maps. The story of geological maps of Ireland is fascinatingly told by G. Herries Davies in his 1995 book, North from the Hook : 150 years of the Geological Survey of Ireland.
