Teaching and Field Preparation Laboratory


The Teaching and Field Prep Laboratory is located on Level 7 in the Earth and Environment Building. The laboratory is available to book by all staff and students within the School. Although the lab is primarily an Environmental Ecology and Chemistry Facility designed to support undergraduate student education it also supports a number of other activities.

There are 3 laboratories available to book;

The Main Laboratory (7.114): Provides space for a maximum of 20 people undertaking a variety of low hazard laboratory and field work activities including; 

  • Undergraduate lab classes
  • Student research projects (BSc/MEnv/MSc)
  • Preparation of field equipment for field trips
  • Outreach Activities
  • Open Day Activities
  • Ad Hoc activities such as sample preparation, demonstrations

 The Main Chemistry Lab (7.114a): Holds two fume cupboards and can be used by 2 or 3 people for chemistry based activities.

 The Small Chemistry Lab (7.114b): Holds one fume cupboard and can be used by 1 or 2 people for chemistry based activities requiring a dark room environment.


Booking the Facilities

The rooms can be booked via the School room booking system. Lab classes and undergraduate field trip preparation should be booked as soon as the dates have been made available by student support services. All other activities should be booked giving as much notice as possible although short term Ad Hoc usage may be bookable at short notice.
