Geomicrobiology Laboratory
Laboratory for research into microbial processes in natural systems. Laboratory is equipped for culturing aerobic and anaerobic micobes under controlled conditions (temperature and atmosphere) and for performing enrichment culture and microsm experiments using microbially active soils and sediments. Current work includes research into the microbial degradation of hydrocarbon spills, bioreduction of toxic metals and fungal weathering of silicate minerals.
Faculties include:
- Laminar flow hood
- Incubators for culturing at constant temperature
- Shaking incubator for aerobic culturing
- UV-Vis spectrometer

- Dr Teresa Roncal-Herroro culturing natural microorganisms
