Does the School offer any financial help?

Significant competitive bursaries are available to students on our MGeol or MGeophys four-year Undergraduate Masters Schemes.

  • BP will award its Philanthropic Scholarships, each worth £2,000, to fifteen successful candidates for the next two years.  Students may apply and be successful more than once.

Students who are awarded a Scholarship may still receive an Attainment Prize, see below.

First year students on BSc or Integrated Undergraduate Masters programmes can apply for the Eliahou Dangoor Scholarships.

The School of Earth and Environment gives non-competitive Attainment Prizes of up to £150 per year to students who attain or maintain an excellent level of performance in their studies, or for those whose assessments show a marked improvement year-on-year. The prizes are available in each year of your degree scheme and all students are eligible provided their overall assessment is at least 50%.

The University of Leeds also offers a Bursary Scheme, details of which can be found at:

How much will the field work cost?

The School of Earth and Environment covers the costs of transport and accommodation for every undergraduate student on all COMPULSORY field courses.  You may have to pay for meals if they are provided, but your accommodation is usually self-catered, so you can work out your budget and cook what you like.  A few keen cooks may be willing to prepare meals in exchange for help with preparation and washing up.

On OPTIONAL field courses, participating students will repay the travel and subsistence costs incurred.

For Earth Sciences final year optional overseas field classes, the School uses industry support whenever possible to contribute to the costs.

For further information for example about field equipment and clothing, go to: http://see.leeds.ac.uk/study/undergrad/fieldwork.htm
