Overview

What is MGeol Geological Sciences?

This programme is a four-year Undergraduate Masters degree (MGeol). Students on this four-year scheme enjoy the unique opportunity of spending their third year in Australia, Canada, USA or New Zealand, and take Masters-level modules during Year 4, in order to achieve the Undergraduate Masters degree.

The programme emphasis is on the fundamental processes which govern the development of the earth's crust, the formation of rocks, and the evolution of life on earth. Course content is regularly updated to provide a thorough grounding in modern applied geology, including petroleum and mineral resources, engineering and environmental geology.

The MGeol programme at Leeds is accredited by the Geological Society, the national body representing and regulating professional geological organizations. Leeds MGeol graduates therefore gain a degree from an accredited course, which allows fast-track progression towards obtaining Chartered Geologist status - the key professional qualification for a career in many commercial spheres of employment.
