Overview

What is Sustainability and Environmental Management?

This programme, underpinned by world class research, is designed to sit at the interface between human activity and the environment. It explores the environmental, economic and social implications of the decisions that we make and the strategies that we use to find sustainable solutions to environmental problems.

You will draw on the disciplines of environmental science and ecology to develop your knowledge and skills in the science that underpins our understanding of sustainability and environmental management. At the same time, teaching in areas such as politics, economics, policy and law allows you to understand and evaluate societies' role in, and interaction with, changes in the natural world. Specialist pathways in natural and social sciences will allow you to tailor the programme to your interests as you progress.

The programme draws on the breadth of expertise within the School and our students benefit from studying alongside one of the largest groups of environmental and social scientists in the UK working in this area. You will be in frequent contact with practitioners from the many environmental areas represented by School staff and visitors from outside the University.

Programme options include a Study Year Abroad and a Year in Industry. From September 2011 applicants are able to apply directly to our Industrial option: see the Year in Industry tab for more information and the appropriate UCAS code.
