Tim Wrighton, BSc Geological Sciences 2009

I am a former student of the University of Leeds and I am currently undertaking a masters in Geological Sciences at the University of British Columbia (UBC).  My project is an industry funded masters project looking at the industrial application of placer gold geochemistry and characterisation in the Dawson range of the Yukon Territory. The project is called the Yukon Gold Project and is funded by 12 exploration companies who are actively exploring for gold in the area. Studying at UBC and being involved in this project has facilitated me gaining hands on experience with different companies on a wide range of projects which has put me in a great position for a career within the exploration industry. This opportunity would not have become available to me without the education and support I gained from studying at the University of Leeds. The courses that I undertook prepared me for the transition into an industry focused research masters course and the practical field skills that I gained while studying at Leeds have proved essential while conducting independent research. I owe great thanks to the department for the training and support I was given and I would readily recommend prospective students to choose the University of Leeds to study.
