I studied  Geology at Leeds and took a year in industry as part of my course.  I am currently working as a Project Manager within the environmental consultancy sector.  My job is both field and office based, with the majority of projects involving sites which have been contaminated as a result of historical industrial activity.  Most projects I am involved in tend to have a hydrogeological element and usually comprise activities such as fieldwork (usually investigation and monitoring activities), environmental exposure risk assessments and groundwater modelling.

My time at Leeds provided me with a solid grounding in geology, hydrogeology and environmental chemistry.  Studying these subjects has provided me with the technical knowledge I need to complete my daily activities.   During my degree I was also given the opportunity to develop teamworking and presentation skills.  These skills have proved invaluable for being able to work effectively with both colleagues and clients.  The opportunity to undertake a year in industry provided me with relevant experience, and combined with the careers support provided by Leeds enabled me to secure a job in industry.  I thoroughly enjoyed studying at Leeds University and would recommend the School of Earth and Environment to anyone thinking of studying geology at university.
