School of Earth and Environment

School of Earth and Environment Sports Club

Established in 2009 by merging the sporting arms of EnviroSoc and RocSoc, the School of Earth and Environment Sports Club (SEESC) offers students within the school the chance to take part in inter mural leagues sports leagues, without the demand for regular training sessions and serious commitment. It’s certainly not a necessity to be good at your chosen sport(s), more players means more teams in the department!

We are the largest departmental sports team at the University, with over 70 active members playing in 12 teams (and increasing each year) across the university campus including 'The Edge', Gryphons Centre and Weetwood Playing Fields taking on our rivals FOBSoc (Biology), LawSoc and LUBS (Business) in a series of competitive sporting leagues.  This year we aim to organise more ‘friendlies’ within the department, where Earth and Environment can go head-to-head, as well as playing the PhD students.

Last  season was our best on record, continuing our steady year by year improvement, largely in part to the rush hockey team, with our rush hockey team claiming top spot in their league in both semesters, whilst the men’s 11 a-side football team finished 3rd, and the 5 a-side teams reached the playoff finals in both semesters.  Rugby also enjoyed their best season to date, finishing mid-table after a series of hard challenges by very experienced teams.

For the 2013/14 season, we are looking for people to take part in:

  • Mens Football (11 and 5 a-side)
  • Rush Hockey (Unisex)
  • Netball
  • Womens Football (5 a-side)
  • Rugby
  • Cricket

In addition to our weekly league games, we offer weekly Monday night socials at our sponsors, the Shooters Sports Bar on Park Row, in the city centre (http://shootersportsbar.co.uk/) where we have free pool, FIFA and darts as well as discounted drinks and upto 50% off food! We aim to be running regular pool tournaments there next year after the success last year, with sizeable cash prizes!
