Loredana Brinza
Graduated in 2010

Why did you choose to study for a PhD? (Interested, opportunity for travel, clear career goals....)
Competitivity is very important aptitude. As a PhD is the highest grade of education I decided to take it as I enjoy continuously studying new things and particularly because is a mandatory step in an academic career. In addition, gives to each individual the feeling of looking deeply into a specific field - pushing boundaries, the freedom of mind and self-satisfaction from the end of the tunnel.

What have you done since you graduated?
I took one month holiday and then I started a PDRA position in one of the biggest UK research institutions.

Has your degree been useful to you in finding work?
Certainly! It opened for me national and international opportunities.  In the last year of my PhD I started showing interest in different academic positions. More than half of my applications were shortlisted for interviews. As a result I was offered a fantastic position just before finishing the PhD at the Diamond Light Source Ltd. UK - where I am now.

What are your long-term career goals?
To follow an academic career mainly involving research in understanding global environmental science challenges.

What would you say to someone else who may be considering studying a
PhD at SEE?

It is a great chance! It is a School with very good resources and collaborations, very dynamic and competitive groups within the one of the whole World recognised universities. From my experience but not only, all these will bring important values to anyone’s career.
