UK/EU student funding

For Sustainability students:

If you are also considering undertaking a PhD, you may be eligible for UK Research Council funding under the 1+3 ESRC scheme. The 1+3 awards provided through ESRC fund one-year research-training Masters followed by a 3-year PhD research programme of study (for part-time students, this equates to a 2-year part-time research-training Masters with a 5-year part-time PhD). Visit the SRI Research website for more details.

For MSc Exploration Geophysics and MSc Structural Geology with Geophysics students:

  • Petroleum Exploration Society of Great Britain (PESGB)
  • The David Marsden Alumnus Scholarship (fees only)

You cannot apply directly for this scholarship. You will be automatically considered if you are holding a firm place on the MSc Exploration Geophysics programme and you are not in receipt of any other source of funding.  Funding has been provided by Dr David Marsden, an alumnus of the Master's course (1968-69) who went on to do a PhD here at Leeds, and has a highly successful career in the hydrocarbons industry.  The scholarship is ideal if you have qualifications and skills outside those of the 'typical' applicant and is aimed at anyone who would be passed over by the mainstream scholarship providers.  It includes a discretionary prize at the end of the course for a student achieving an overall Distinction grade.

Full and partial fee awards available, early application strongly advised.
