Entry Requirements

Below are general entry requirements please check the individual course pages for course specific requirements.

A good first degree (with a classification of 2:1 or better), or equivalent qualification. Mature applicants without a first degree or with a lower degree classification may be considered on the basis of their relevant industry experience and their potential for benefiting from the programme.

If English is not your first Language or your degree is not from a UK institution, the University will require you to have one of the following:

6.5 (with no less than 6.0 in any component)

Pearson (Academic)64 (with no less than 60 in any component)

Cambridge, (CPE) Certificate of Proficiency in English

Grade C or above University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations

Other Qualifications

GCE O Levels, Cambridge Advanced Certificate in English.


The University of Leeds Language Centre provides a range of English for Academic Purposes Pre-sessional courses which are designed to help international students develop the necessary language and academic study skills required for successful study on a taught postgraduate degree programme at the University of Leeds. Courses are offered throughout the year with starting dates in September, January, April, July or August. Below is a general guide of International and EU Qualifications and their equivalence to a UK 2:1 Bachelor Degree classification (our basic entry requirement). If your country is not listed we will check the equivalency for your qualification when you apply.

Bachelor degree / Ptychio from a recognised Institution - cgpa of at least 7/10

Ethiopia

Applicants must have a Masters Degree

France

“Bien” or cgpa of 14 or above

Germany

“Gut” or cgpa of 2.0 or better

Ghana

Bachelor Degree 2:1

Greece

Bachelor degree / Ptychio - cgpa of at least 7

India

Bachelor of Arts / Science (Honours or Special Degree) when awarded from a central university or a recognised state university - 2:1 or better

Iran

Bachelor Degree with 14/20

Iraq

Bachelor Degree with 75% or above

Kazakhstan

Normally a specialist diploma plus a Masters – please check before applying

Libya

Bachelor Degree from a University - at least 75% or cgpa of 2.8 - please check before applying

Malawi

Applicants must have a Masters Degree

Nigeria

Bachelor Degree - applicants should note the School of Earth and Environment requires a CGPA of 4.0/5.0 or better to be eligible for consideration

Pakistan

4 Year Bachelor Degree in a Science or Professional Subject - 70% or higher. Masters qualification required from Humanities and Commerce Subjects taken at Degree Level.

USA

Bachelor Degree CGPA 3.0
